Writing Effective University Applications

Maximize your chances of getting into the Canadian university of your choice in this dynamic, interactive and personalized course. Over eight self-paced weeks, learn step-by-step how to write memorable and convincing university undergraduate applications for Canadian universities that catch the attention of admissions committees.

Along the way, gain advanced communication skills you can use in your university courses and beyond. Practise your application writing and receive detailed feedback on three writing assignments based on common application questions.

Part 1 Understand the parts that make up a university application, and application timelines and deadlines. Find out what admissions committees look for in prospective students, and learn advanced communication strategies to help you create applications that stand out. Explore the things you can do now while still in high school to enhance your chances of being accepted into the university of your choice.

Part 2 Clarify your goals. Research programs that interest you and explore the factors that influence your decisions about where to apply. Learn how to build a powerful vocabulary of skills and accomplishments.

Part 3 Continue developing your skills in communicating about yourself. Analyze a personal statement example, and practise proofreading and polishing strategies.

Part 4 Complete applications-based writing assignments and receive detailed feedback from your instructor.
