Darla K. Deardorff, MA, PhD, is a world-renowned authority on internationalizing post-secondary organizations, with a career that spans more than 20 years in the international education field.
Darla is a research fellow at Duke University in the US and an adjunct or visiting professor at numerous institutions in the US, China and Japan. She also consults for universities and organizations around the world on topics related to intercultural competence development and assessment, global leadership, teacher education and internationalization.
She is Executive Director of the Association of International Education Administrators. Past appointments have included faculty positions with Harvard University’s Future of Learning Institute and Global Education Think Tank, as well as the prestigious Summer Institute of Intercultural Communication in Portland, Oregon.
Darla has spoken in more than 35 countries on her research and work on intercultural competence and international education assessment and has advised such organizations as UNESCO, OECD, AFS International and International Baccalaureate.
She has published widely on international education, global leadership and intercultural learning and assessment, and has authored or edited eight books. Her most recent book, Leading Internationalization, was published in 2018, and Manual for Developing Intercultural Competencies will be published in 2019. She is working on her ninth book.
