Decolonizing and Creating Culturally Responsive Pedagogy

Understand and learn how to decolonize your research, teaching strategies and tools.

Start by examining the pedagogies you use now and understand how you can deconstruct them through a decolonization lens. Consider the changes you may need to make to de-center popular, mainstream and colonial narratives and experiences, and how to replace them with perspectives and voices from the margins.

Connect these changes to your own social location and to that of the students in your class. Develop empathy and critical thinking skills to increase your capacity to notice and respond to social injustices and inequities, both in the classroom and on campus. Learn how to promote a human-centered approach to your evolving suite of skills.

This course can be applied to the UBC Certificate in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and UBC Micro-certificate in Anti-Racism.
