Who are the students who take English Communication Skills (ECS) courses?
Students are mostly working professionals who need to improve various aspects of their English to further their career paths.
How many students are there in a class?
The maximum of students per class is 15. We want to keep the classes small so each student gets more individual attention.
Do you offer grammar or writing courses?
UBC Extended Learning has several writing courses that will help with the written part of your English language studies, including grammar and business writing courses.
Is there an assessment exam to complete before registering for the ECS courses?
There is no exam. Ideally your English should be at level A2 of the Council of Europe's Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Will I receive a certificate when I finish the course?
We can give you a letter of completion if you have attended 70% of all the classes. If you miss more than two classes, we cannot give you a letter of completion. You must request a letter of completion as we do not provide them automatically. If you want a certificate, please consider enrolling in our UBC Award of Achievement Program in Business English for International Professionals.
How do I register for a course?
You can register online with a credit card.
